In
His Own Words - Sean Delson
20 years!!! It's been almost 20 years... I can't
believe it. Has it really been that long? The
years of 1988 thru 1994. These were the years
when we were all running around to shows putting
out flyer's, practicing six and seven days a week...
promoting, gigging, cutting our eye-teeth and
just knowing we were all gonna "make it"
to the BIG TIME!!
Most of you reading this certainly know that Stuck
Mojo was formed in Atlanta. In those
years, there were many, many bands in the Atlanta
music scene. It really was a close knit and thriving
music community. I was in band called Salem
Ash... a proggy metal band that later
morphed into Agent Cooper. But
did you know that Frank "Bud" Fontsere
lived with me back in those years? He played drums
in Salem Ash, then Mojo,
then Ash, then Mojo,
then Cooper!! hahaha
Rich Ward and my
brother, Corey Delson, worked at the local music
store together back then for a while. Rich use
to train at the gym with Robert Taylor (Salem
Ash guitarist in those years) every week.
I JUST found out about that less than a month
ago when Rich told me! Another nugget is that
Mike Martin lived
with the singer of Salem Ash,
Doug Busbee, for years and worked on the Ash\Cooper
stuff. There are so many things that tie us all
together, along with so many memories of those
days. The Stuck Mojo you see
today is in no way some random group of dudes
just thrown together.
Back in "the day" I worked as a landscaper
for a company that did commercial accounts like
big apartment complexes. Yes, I was the guy that
woke you up a 8 in the morning with a backpack
blower, or mower! Always trying to stick together,
I hired all my buds, Rich Ward, Doug Busbee and
Mike Martin! We ALL worked together there (along
with dozens of other poor souls). It was so many
years ago, yet we were together then, in the struggle,
and together now.
I remember Mark Willis (Stuck Mojo
management) and his "Atlanta Attack"
days! All our bands would play THE ROXY THEATRE
here in Atlanta, and it was good times with a
strong community that had genuine camaraderie
amongst all the bands. That was some 15 years
ago.
We, the players in Mojo, Fozzy,
The Duke, and Agent Cooper
have such a long history with stories that go
on and on. Did you know that Doug Busbee played
the first ever Duke gig in Athens,
GA? Eric Frampton's keyboards are all over these
bands records as well. We all go way back I tell
ya, and I could spend days writing all the little
things that tied us brothers together over the
last 15 or more years. We have a solid HISTORY
of playing together in different incarnations
that leads us up to this very day, and we will
all be together again making new memories on yet
another tour bus this coming fall.
There are some of you reading this that know
these trivial facts, and have been through it
all with us over the years. But to the ones that
are curious about how we all came together, it
is a tale of fate, and a tale of dreams, that
none of us never even considered giving up on.
We have fought, and bled, and got fucked (literally
and figuratively!) time and time again over the
years leading up to the band we now share. We
all bring our live's work, and the years that
have honed us to the table, molding us into the
players we are and the band you are now reading
about. Listen to these new
recordings people. The tracks bleed feel.
That kinda playing only comes from years and years
of life's trials and tribulations - giig after
gig after gig after gig. And I wouldn't trade
any of it for anything.
As for myself, I grew up here in the South (Carolina,
to be precise) and started playing music at a
young age. Devouring Rush records, Iron Maiden,
etc., and the stuff WE ALL grew up on. As soon
as I graduated high school, I packed up and moved
to Beverly... Hills that is.... Swimmin' Pools....
Movie Stars.... Well, not really, but it was Hollywood,
CA, where I attended a music school (BIT). After
becoming a delicious Honors Graduate from there,
I moved back to the South. Atlanta was gonna be
home. Years spent in original bands, doing session
work, writing jingles for various commercials,
cover bands, records, etc. It all adds up, folks.
There will be a lot more of these tales forthcoming.
Be sure to check out our new and upcoming podcasts
where we will be telling stories both old and
new.
PEACE! And thanks for all your support,
